My family and I recently tested the Keurig B70 single cup coffee maker for a period of two weeks. We did this so that I would be able to provide an in-depth review to anyone who is considering purchasing this model. Our normal coffee maker was put into storage and we only used the Keurig B70. We did this so that we would get a clear idea of how this unit performs with everyday usage. Here is my review.
The Keurig B70 coffee maker costs about $165, making it more expensive than many other brands available today. My expectations for this unit will be high based on the price.
I unpacked my new Keurig coffee maker and examined it. I have previously only used the Keurig mini brewers, so this is a bigger unit than I am used to with a lot more bells and whistles. It has a large water reservoir, with enough room for 60 ounces of water. This is the largest reservoir available on a residential (not commercial) Keurig coffee maker. There is a blue back-lit LCD display and a control panel which allows you to customize the cup size and temperature. The look of it is quite smooth, sleek and modern. Esthetically, it would be a very nice addition to any kitchen or office. The look and feel of this unit is solid and well-made.
I selected my first k-cup and prepared to brew. This unit does require a warm-up period of approximately 4 minutes before brewing. Once the warm-up was done, the coffee brewed quickly and perfectly. My husband wanted to try a cup immediately after I made my coffee, and with the 60 ounce reservoir of water already hot, his coffee was done very quickly.
The see-through water reservoir is illuminated with a cool blue light when the machine is on. One feature we really enjoyed: the reservoir light begins blinking when you need to add more water. This unit also has a “hot water on demand” button which is very useful for making things like oatmeal or instant soup. There is also a “rinse” button which is incredibly useful when alternating between two very different flavor profiles, such as tea and coffee.
Keurig says the B70 is their quietest model available. This is Keurig’s answer to all the noise complaints surrounding their full-sized models. I have not used those models and as such can not compare the B70 to them, but it is indeed quieter than other brands of single cup coffee makers I have used in the past. I would say the noise level is comparable to the mini brewer, perhaps just a touch quieter.
I thought my children would prefer an easier to use Keurig coffee maker with less options, such as a mini brewer that my family had used in the past. Quite to the contrary, my children really enjoyed playing around with the different options on this model. They are not old enough to be coffee drinkers yet, but they do enjoy Keurig’s hot cocoa and apple cider. My entire family felt this Keurig coffee maker was very easy to use and very convenient. Having extra hot water on hand was great; having the 60 ounce reservoir really cuts down on brewing time once the machine has been heated. This unit is somewhat large; be prepared to give up a little more counter space than a normal coffee maker would require.
